A young Bouyei couple brought their coughing 3 month old son to the clinic and on examination he had obvious pneumonia.  He was given some antibiotic that would cover him for 24 hours. When they returned the baby was pale and weak. He was rushed to hospital, XF handled the registration issues while the doctor kept him oxygenated.  He got into the pediatric intensive care unit safely. A little over a week later he was out and doing well.  The family had gotten to know XF though the episode and accepted an invitation to attend her house church with her.

Two weekends ago LJ called saying that the husband of a childhood friend of hers had been injured in Guizhou province.  He was working on a roof when it collapsed and he fell through onto a low wall dividing two animal pens.  His back was broken.  He lost bowel and bladder control but could still move his legs.  Could they bring him to the city and could the Christian workers help them pay for surgery? The Christian workers did not have enough to pay for the surgery and this case did not fit with their guidelines for giving financial help. But they recognized that they cannot come up with "rules" that do not get trumped by the requirements of grace.  Fortunately the family was able to borrow most of what they needed and the local surgeon did everything he could to minimize the bill. He had a titanium rod placed in his back last Thursday.
